The most popular weBoost home cell signal boosters

Posted by Powerful Signal on Jun 22nd 2017

Many people I talk to ask me what I do for a living. When I tell them about Powerful Signal and how we improve cell signal reception in cars, homes, and large office buildings all over the country, they are amazed. Almost always, their first response to me is, “I didn’t know you could do that!”

There definitely seems to be a disconnect between the general public and cellular amplifier technology; not too many people know about this technology and how it works. Let’s change that. In this article, we’re going to cover:

How cell signal booster technology works

Sample Home Cell Signal Booster Installation Sample cell signal booster Installation with one interior broadcast antenna

This diagram shows a simple home cell signal booster installation. There are five basic components:

  1. An outside donor antenna that communicates with the cell tower
  2. Coax cable that connects the donor antenna to the cell signal booster
  3. The cell signal booster and power supply
  4. Coax cable that connects the cell signal booster to the interior broadcast antenna
  5. The interior broadcast antenna (dome or panel)

The cell phone signal booster is a bidirectional amplifier (BDA) with multiple frequencies to handle multiple carriers simultaneously. The booster provides signal amplification for both uplink to the tower and downlink to the cell phone. The power of the uplink and downlink gain are measured in decibels (dB). A few dB difference in gain can make all the difference in the world.

Smaller systems cover a single room, and usually have around 60 dB of gain. Medium-size systems cover a few rooms, and have around 65 dB gain. The largest systems will cover an entire home, and have around 70 dB of gain. Even though different systems might have the same look and share the same antennas and other components, be sure to check the gain. The larger the gain, the more powerful and expensive the unit will usually be.

Residential systems have a single outside donor antenna and (usually) a single inside broadcast antenna. Systems for larger homes may have multiple interior broadcast antennas for more coverage. If you’re trying to cover a large home, please contact us to make sure you’ve selected the right system with enough gain and number of antennas.

An important fact about coverage: The cell signal strength outside your home is one of the most important variables in cell signal booster coverage. Another important variable is the type and length of coax cable you choose. It’s entirely possible for a small weBoost Home 4G to get more coverage with strong outside signal than a large weBoost Connect 4G‑X will get with very weak signal outside.

The weBoost Home 4G

The weBoost Home 4G (470101) is designed for small spaces, like a single room or work area. This booster is very versatile and ideally-suited for apartments, condominiums, dorms, and other small living or work spaces.

This system comes with an outside panel antenna that has three different mounting options: window mount, outside wall mount, and rooftop pole mount (pole not included). Its interior broadcast antenna sits on a desktop or table. RG6 coax connects the outside panel antenna and the cell signal booster.

The Home 4G is the only weBoost residential cell signal booster kit with a free-standing desktop antenna. Under normal conditions, you should only expect this antenna to broadcast a 10-foot cone of improved cell signal. You may get more distance if you have strong cell signal at the window.

The weBoost Connect 4G

The weBoost Connect 4G (470103) provides improved cellular coverage for two or three rooms in a residential environment. The Connect 4G also works well in a very small office with only a few users.

The number of rooms the Connect 4G will cover depends entirely on the strength of the cell signal received from the tower by the outside antenna: The more signal available to the antenna, the farther the signal will be broadcast inside the home by the interior antenna.

The outside directional antenna is mounted on the roof of the home pointing towards the cell tower. A length of RG6 coax cable runs from the exterior antenna to the booster. The booster is placed near a power source and needs to be plugged in. Another RG6 coax cable is run from the booster to the interior panel or dome antenna. Powerful Signal offers a custom Connect 4G kit with a bonus dome antenna; the dome antenna is placed in the attic or on a drywall ceiling, pointing downward.

Included in the Connect 4G kit

  • weBoost Connect 4G cell signal amplifier
  • AC wall outlet power supply
  • Wideband outdoor directional antenna
  • Wideband indoor panel antenna
  • 30 ft. RG6 coax cable (×2)
  • User manual & quick install guide

The weBoost Connect 4G‑X

The weBoost Connect 4G‑X is Wilson Electronics’ premiere home cell signal booster. This metal-encased cellular amplifier uses low-loss 400 coax cable for better performance and has the highest output power allowed for a consumer cell signal booster by the FCC.

The Connect 4G‑X can cover an entire home or small office with a few thousand square feet of coverage, depending on the strength of the outside cell signal.

The 400 coax cable used in this system has half the signal loss of RG6 coax cable used in the smaller Home 4G and Connect 4G. This is an important factor when it comes to the number of square feet a signal booster system can cover.

Included in the Connect 4G‑X kit

  • weBoost Connect 4G‑X cell signal amplifier
  • AC wall outlet power supply
  • Wideband outdoor directional antenna
  • Wideband indoor panel antenna
  • 75 ft. 400 coax cable
  • 60 ft. 400 coax cable
  • User manual & quick install guide
