What is DAS?

DAS stands for distributed antenna system. DAS systems are designed to broadcast cellular coverage inside structures where the building materials block cell signals.

A passive DAS or hybrid DAS system uses one or more antennas mounted on the building’s exterior to collect outside cell signal. An amplifier boosts the signal gain, and one or more antennas inside the building broadcast the signal to cellular devices. The antennas and amplifiers are connected by coax, fiber-optic, or Ethernet cables.

DAS systems are available for commercial and public buildings of all sizes for general use. One specific application of DAS is as a public safety system that works with radios used by firefighters and other emergency responders.
