Can a cell phone booster use existing Ethernet or fiber cable in my building?
Fiber DAS can run on existing fiber cable, as long as the cable matches the system’s specifications. Fiber DAS systems often run $3–5 per square foot of coverage; Powerful Signal offers fiber systems that cost only 10–25% of that.
A commercial ethernet cell phone booster system designed to use Ethernet cable (like the CEL-FI QUATRA 4000) requires dedicated runs cable from the booster to the antennas. You also can’t run a cell signal booster Ethernet cable through a switch or router; it requires a direct connection from the booster to each antenna.
Under FCC regulations, Ethernet and fiber DAS systems are classified as industrial boosters, and require individual approval from each carrier to install and operate. Passive DAS systems are preapproved by all carriers, and do not require approval or licensing.
